Vessels of Unbecoming - Schaufenster junge Kunst

07.02.26-19.04.26

Galerie Stadt Sindelfingen is pleased to present the exhibition Vessels of Unbecoming by Leon Simonis (b. 2001, Sindelfingen) in the Schaufenstern junge Kunst. Vessels of Unbecoming is dedicated to the ephemeral state of transition. Transformation, deconstruction, and metamorphosis are at the heart of the works, which understand materials and plants as fragile bodies undergoing constant change. Everything is multifaceted, nothing is complete, nothing is final.

Legendary, religious, and contemporary narratives merge into a new, speculative mythology. Church customs and rituals are deliberately taken up and reinterpreted: spines are reminiscent of crucifixes, water bowls of baptismal fonts, latex works on glass evoke stained glass windows, textile veils refer to confessionals. The scenes unfold a spiritual, hybrid landscape between science fiction and fantastic realism.

The exhibition itself becomes a vessel for new ideas. It raises questions about the origins of cultural practices, the mixing of ideologies, and the finiteness of things. “Unbecoming” becomes a symbol of letting go of inherited traditions and for the willingness to allow new perspectives on nature, faith, and interpretive authority.

Exhibition opening: Friday, February 6th, 2025, 7 p.m.

Curator: Marisa Zeising

The exhibitions in the Schaufenster junge Kunst are supported by the Helmut Fischer Foundation.
