DIGITAL EXHIBITION: Motion is Solution

In the solo exhibition of Thomas Lempertz (* in Pforzheim, lives and works in Stuttgart), Motion is Solution, the artist takes a look at the ambivalence of ballet. Although an intense, in some cases painful physical exercise, when performed it appears playful, light and perfectly executed. Like no other form of dance, professional classical ballet embodies a tremendous physical exertion which must be trained from an early age. In the exhibition Motion is Solution, the artist makes reference to physical movement as it interacts with the intellectual sphere. Body and mind form a unified whole which cannot be separated. Based on this, Lempertz suggests that motion is the solution, the release which allows us to free ourselves from our fears. Control over the body can equally lead to a freedom of the mind.

Thomas Lempertz studied dance at the renowned John Cranko School in Stuttgart and was a dancer with the Stuttgart Ballet. Artistic director Reid Anderson promoted him to a soloist. After his dance career, he devoted himself to costume design and studied Intermedia Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart. In his work he combines the disciplines of performance, dance, photography and object art. He lives and works as a freelance artist in Stuttgart.
